Impressive selfies and familiar design!
Xiaomi Redmi S2 (Y2) was launched on May 10 in China. And this evening(June 7th) it made its way to Indian market. The rebranded S2 is called the Redmi Y2 in India. It fills the successor slot for Redmi Y1 as it has a AI Selfie camera to the front.
Redmi S2 (Y2) is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 chip, a pretty old battery efficient yet powerful chipset. There is two variant as you inquire about memory being 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB RAM and Storage options respectively. Probably the best thing about this budget Xiaomi phone will be the presence of a dedicated SD card slot supporting up to 256 GB of micro SD card.
Redmi S2 (Y2) sports a 18:9 5.99-inch HD+ IPS LCD display. There are no capacitive navigation buttons present to the bottom bezel of the display. Therefore it has onscreen keys for that business. The display is fairly tall and has a 70.8% NTSC colour gamut.
Redmi S2 (Y2)’s cameras are on the highlights. There is a 12MP (f/2.2) + 5MP (f/2.2) dual camera setup to the back with support for EIS adapted from the Redmi Note 5 Pro. It has PDAF for focusing business and has an LED flash to assist in low light.
The front camera is a 16MP (f/2.0) AI-assisted sensor that is going to snap selfies. There is an LED flashlight as well to assist in low light. It boasts features like 4 in 1 pixel binning technique which binds 4 pixel into one to give better low light selfies.
The 3GB/32GB variant costs ₹ 9,999 whereas the higher 4GB/64GB costs ₹ 11,999. They are currently hosting the sale on Mi India’s Y2 Page. The phone is available in three colors namely Rose Gold, Champagne Gold and Platinum Silver.
Redmi S2 (Y2) runs MIUI9 on the top of Android v8.1 Oreo which is pretty good in our opinion. There is a 3080mAh non-removable battery that will power this device.
