Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 8 SE last week along with the Mi 8 in China. These are the iPhone X lookalikes which offers great specs at a far more aggressive price.
Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is the first commercial phone to sport Qualcomm’s SnapDragon 710. SD710 is a octa-core chip with 2×2.2 GHz Cortex-A75 and 6×1.7 GHz Cortex-A55 cores. There are two RAM variant one being 4GB and the other 6GB. And there is 64GB memory available as internal storage on this phone. There is however no slot to expand memory.
Mi 8 SE sports a 5.88-inch FHD+ (2244x1080px) Super AMOLED display. There is a notch to the top and a slightly thick chin to the bottom. The front looks somewhat similar like the iPhone X.
To the back is a dual camera setup, the primary lens is a 12MP with an f/1.9 aperture. The secondary camera is a 5MP with an f/2.0 aperture. The primary camera has Dual Pixel PDAF which comes in handy in low light scenarios. There is a gyro assisted EIS for the video stability. It can record videos in upto 4K at 30fps.
The front shooter is a 20MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. This sensor has the AI-selfie. It boasts features like Face Beauty, Bokeh mode and many other.
There is fingerprint sensor to the back. The front and back glass body is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass.
Mi 8 SE
Mi 8 SE runs the latest version of MIUI9 (v9.5) on the top of Android v8.1 Oreo. There is sadly no 3.5mm headphone jack on this phone and uses the USB Type-C to 3.5mm jack adapter. There is Dual-band Wi-Fi present along with Bluetooth 5.0 (LE) for quicker connectivity. The USB on this phone is a Type-C connector which is pretty standard now. It has a 3120 mAh non-removable Li-Po battery which can be charged quickly via a QC 3.0 fast charging adapter.
There are 4 color options to choose from namely Red, Black/Grey, Blue and Gold.
Mi 8 SE is currently set to retail at CNY 1,799 in the Chinese market. It is more likely to come to India the next month with competitive price being around ₹ 18K.
